On Saturday, August 3, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed that the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) is set to open soon in Bengaluru.
Construction of the new NCA began in 2022, with the foundation stone being laid by former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah in February 2022. The current NCA, established in 2000, is situated within the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium premises in Bengaluru.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), which owns the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, had previously leased Ground B, an indoor practice facility, and a gym space to the BCCI for training purposes.
The upcoming National Cricket Academy (NCA) will eliminate the BCCI’s reliance on the KSCA, granting it full control over the new facility. Situated close to Bengaluru airport, the new NCA is nearing completion. Jay Shah took to X (formerly Twitter) to share several photos of the nearly finished academy and announced that it will be opening soon.
New NCA is almost complete: Jay Shah
Jay Shah highlighted that the new facility boasts three top-notch grounds, 45 practice pitches, indoor cricket pitches, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. It also features cutting-edge training, recovery, and other amenities for players. The BCCI secretary emphasized that this development will provide India’s current and aspiring cricketers with an exceptional environment to refine their skills.
“Very excited to announce that the @BCCI’ s new National Cricket Academy (NCA) is almost complete and will be opening shortly in Bengaluru. The new NCA will feature three world-class playing grounds, 45 practice pitches, indoor cricket pitches, Olympic-size swimming pool and state-of-the-art training, recovery and sports science facilities.
“This initiative will help our nation’s current and future cricketers develop their skills in the best possible environment!” wrote Jay Shah.
The NCA primarily focuses on nurturing young cricketers and also serves as a rehabilitation center for injured players. Currently, the facility is overseen by former India batsman VVS Laxman, who serves as its director.
