Indian captain Rohit Sharma preferred to bowl first in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against Australia in St Lucia. However, India lost the toss and were instead sent in to bat. Despite losing Virat Kohli early without scoring, Rohit Sharma seized the opportunity to capitalize on a favorable batting track at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
Mitchell Starc, the seasoned fast bowler for Australia, endured frustration as Rohit Sharma punished him severely, scoring 29 runs off one over. Rohit greeted Starc’s second over with consecutive sixes, followed by a boundary over mid-on on the third ball, and smashed the fourth delivery for a massive 96-meter maximum over deep mid-wicket.
After a dot ball and a wide, Rohit attempted to slog a full-toss from Starc for another six, but it took a top edge and sailed over third man for a boundary.
Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first against India in a pivotal match in St Lucia. Australia made a strategic change by including Mitchell Starc in place of Ashton Agar. In contrast, India maintained the same starting eleven from their previous game.
Play was disrupted by rain after just four overs of India’s innings. At the interruption, India had reached 43 for 1 in 4.1 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma was in blistering form, scoring 41 runs off just 14 deliveries, while Rishabh Pant was at the crease with 1 run to his name. The only wicket to fall was Virat Kohli, dismissed for a duck in the second over of the innings.
