Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma of the India Women’s National Cricket Team have seen a rise in their ICC rankings for T20I batters, owing to their recent stellar performances. This development comes on the heels of their impressive displays in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2024.
Shafali Verma showcased her prowess with the bat by scoring 40 runs against Pakistan and 37 runs against the United Arab Emirates, contributing significantly to India’s victories in both matches. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur, although starting with a modest unbeaten 5 against Pakistan, delivered a standout unbeaten 66 against the United Arab Emirates, guiding her team to another convincing win.
In addition to Kaur and Verma’s climb, Richa Ghosh, India’s wicketkeeper-batter, ascended four places to claim the 24th spot in the ICC rankings. Her standout performance, an unbeaten 64 off just 29 balls against the United Arab Emirates, earned her the Player of the Match accolade.
Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana maintained her 5th position in the T20I rankings, showcasing her form with a brisk 45 against Pakistan and a quickfire 13 against the United Arab Emirates. Bangladesh’s Nigar Sultana also made gains, moving up two spots to 17th after her match-winning 48* against Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka bowlers have seen significant gains in the ICC rankings.
Inoshi Priyadharshani, the off-spinner from Sri Lanka, has achieved her career-best ranking by advancing three places to claim the 4th position in the ICC rankings. Her noteworthy performances included taking two wickets against Bangladesh and one against Malaysia, which contributed significantly to her ascent.
Murshida Khatun of Bangladesh also saw a rise in her rankings, climbing six places to 47th after delivering consistent performances. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Vishmi Gunaratne moved up 7 places to secure the 51st spot, and Thailand’s Nattaya Boochatham made significant progress, jumping 10 places to reach 76th in the batting rankings.
Nahida Akter has improved her ranking by nine places, now sitting at 21st, while Marufa Akter has moved to the 26th position. Udeshika Prabodhani of Sri Lanka claimed the 30th spot, and India’s Shreyanka Patil climbed 19 places to 41st in the latest rankings.
In the realm of all-rounders, Australia’s Beth Mooney retained her top position as the No.1 ranked T20I batter in women’s cricket, with no changes within the top 10 positions.
