Jasprit Bumrah had an exceptional performance in the ICC T20 World Cup last month, playing a pivotal role in India’s victory after 17 years.
Bumrah was the standout bowler of the tournament and earned the Player of the Tournament accolade. Throughout the competition, he provided critical breakthroughs and showcased a remarkable economy rate. He began with back-to-back Player of the Match awards against Ireland and Pakistan and continued to excel.
Bumrah concluded the tournament as the third-highest wicket-taker, behind Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi and his teammate Arshdeep Singh. Farooqi and Arshdeep each took 18 wickets, while Bumrah finished with 15 wickets, maintaining an impressive economy rate of just 4.17.
With the World Cup concluded, Jasprit Bumrah has shared details of a humorous exchange with Canadian players during the tournament. India’s final group match against Canada was canceled due to a wet outfield.
Bumrah recounted how the Canadian players playfully mentioned that he might have been in their dressing room if he had chosen to relocate to Canada. Previously, Bumrah had disclosed that his family had suggested moving to Canada for further studies instead of pursuing a demanding cricket career.
“In this World Cup, I met the Canadian team, and they jokingly asked me that you know if you would have come here, we would have played the World Cup together. That was a conversation that was funny to have,” Jasprit Bumrah told the Indian Express.

Jasprit Bumrah also shared how his family wanted him to leave cricket and build his career by relocating to Canada. The star pacer said that his mother was concerned about his cricket aspirations and wanted him to give up on the game for further studies.
“My uncle used to live in Canada, now he lives in America. My mother had given me a few years that okay, you can try whatever you do in this cricket because she’d think that so many people play the sport, how will you get there, we don’t have a lot of means to give you and you’ve not really done this since you were a child. We thought okay, we’ll give it a shot, and then probably I will go and study in Canada and try to make a living there,” said Bumrah.
Meanwhile, Bumrah has not played any competitive game since the T20 World Cup last month. He has been rested for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka and is likely to return to action when India host Bangladesh in September.
