Suryakumar Yadav is set to captain a youthful Indian squad in the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, with the first match scheduled in Pallekele on Saturday. Among the emerging players eager to impress is Rinku Singh.
Yadav’s appointment as captain over Hardik Pandya was unexpected to some. However, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir clarified that Pandya’s fitness issues were a significant factor in the decision. They emphasized the need for a captain likely to participate in all matches, leading them to select Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav ranks as India’s third-highest run-scorer in T20Is, trailing only Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Meanwhile, Rinku Singh in a recent video revealed whether Suryakumar Yadav gave him the bat he asked for. “Theek hai bat le lena,” Surya posted an Instagram story with Rinku Singh after Landing in Sri Lanka.
Replying to his story, the youngster wrote, “De do bhaiya bat.” Recently, Rinku was asked whether Suryakumar gave him his bat, the batter revealed that he’s yet to receive from him however, he’s using the one given by Kohli.

“Virat bhai ka bat chal raha hai abhi toh (I’m using Virat Kohli’s bat for now),” said Rinku in a video shared by Sports Fact Real on their YouTube channel.
Rinku Singh showcased a strong performance in the recent T20I series against Zimbabwe. He participated in all the matches, though he didn’t bat in every game. His standout moment came in the second T20I, where he scored an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls, helping India set a total of 232/2. This match also saw Abhishek Sharma achieve his first T20I century.
Suryakumar Yadav has captained India in several T20Is, winning five out of those matches. He led the team against Australia in a T20I series shortly after last year’s ODI World Cup and drew the T20I series against South Africa earlier this year.
For the upcoming T20I series, Rishabh Pant returns to the Indian squad following the T20 World Cup, alongside Sanju Samson as the primary wicketkeeper-batter options. Kuldeep Yadav has been rested from the T20Is but is included in the ODI squad. Yuzvendra Chahal, who was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning team, has been left out of the selection.
