Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Mongia has embarked on a new chapter in his coaching career by accepting the role of head coach for the senior men’s team at the Goa Cricket Association. His appointment marks a significant move for the seasoned cricketer, who brings a wealth of experience from his illustrious playing days, having featured in 57 ODIs and one T20I for India. Mongia played a crucial role in India’s cricket history, including their triumph in the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy and their runner-up finish in the 2003 ODI World Cup.
During his playing career, the left-handed batter amassed 1,230 runs in ODIs and 38 runs in T20Is. Known for his consistency, Mongia also enjoyed a prolific first-class career, accumulating over 8,000 runs at an impressive average of nearly 50, with a highest score of 308. His coaching journey has seen him lead Odisha previously, further solidifying his credentials for his new role in Goa.
Joining Mongia in the coaching setup is former Indian cricketer J.P. Yadav, who will take charge as the head coach for Goa’s U-23 team. Yadav, known for his tenure with Railways and his coaching acumen, is expected to nurture Goa’s young talents, succeeding Swapnil Asnodkar in this pivotal role.
These appointments underline Goa Cricket Association’s commitment to fostering talent at both senior and junior levels, leveraging the expertise of distinguished former players like Mongia and Yadav to enrich the state’s cricketing landscape.
Rohan Kadam to play for Goa next season.
According to Sportstar, the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has decided to retain Arjun Tendulkar, KV Siddharth, and Rohan Kadam as their professional players for the upcoming season. Arjun Tendulkar and KV Siddharth were part of Goa’s team in the previous season, while Rohan Kadam has made the move from Karnataka to Goa. Interestingly, Rahul Tripathi has returned to Maharashtra.
Rohan Kadam had secured a No Objection Certificate from Karnataka last season to join Goa but missed out due to Rahul Tripathi’s inclusion. KV Siddharth, who scored 467 runs in the previous Ranji Trophy season, will be aiming to build on his impressive performances in the forthcoming season with Goa.
Mandeep Singh to play for Tripura in the upcoming season.
Mandeep Singh, who guided Punjab to triumph in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last season, is poised to join Tripura. Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) president Amarjeet Singh Mehta has acknowledged Mandeep’s departure as a substantial loss but stands behind his decision.
“We have received his application for NOC. It’s definitely a big loss for Punjab cricket, but if a player wants to move elsewhere for better prospects, why should we stop?” PCA president Amarjeet Singh Mehta told Sportstar.
Jiwanjot Singh recently transitioned to Uttarakhand following an extended stint with Punjab, marking a significant move in his career. Meanwhile, Mandeep Singh, who served as Punjab’s captain for many years, boasts a distinguished career spanning 14 years, featuring 99 first-class matches and 131 List-A appearances.
In an effort to bolster their squad, the Tripura Cricket Association has secured the signings of Jiwanjot Singh and Mandeep Singh. This move comes in the wake of Wriddhiman Saha and Sudip Chatterjee rejoining Bengal, prompting Tripura’s pursuit for a wicketkeeper-batter. Jiwanjot had represented Uttarakhand in the previous season, adding to his experience in domestic cricket.
