Suryakumar Yadav upholds tradition, hands T20I series trophy to Riyan Parag and Rinku Singh.
Following in the esteemed footsteps of former Indian captains Dhoni, Virat, and Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, now leading India’s T20I squad, upheld a cherished tradition by passing on the trophy to the younger players. Dhoni, renowned for his tactical prowess and calm leadership, steered India to victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.
Recently, after securing a triumphant 3-0 T20I series win against Sri Lanka in Kandy, Suryakumar celebrated his first trophy as full-time captain by presenting it to emerging talents Riyan Parag and Rinku Singh. This gesture not only honors their contributions but also symbolizes continuity and mentorship within the Indian cricket team.
The video capturing Suryakumar’s heartfelt act has since gone viral on social media, earning admiration for his commitment to preserving the legacy initiated by the legendary Dhoni.
In the climactic third T20I against Sri Lanka in Kandy, Suryakumar and Rinku showcased their bowling prowess by each claiming two crucial wickets in the final two overs, pivotal in leveling the match. We planned it in such a fun way: Riyan Parag on bowling Rinku Singh, Suryakumar Yadav
Securing this victory, the Men in Blue completed a clean sweep of the three-match T20I series in Sri Lanka. Post-match, Parag shared insights into the strategy behind the bold decision that saw Suryakumar and Rinku making significant impacts with their bowling prowess.
Riyan Parag said, “It was fun. And that’s why we actually didn’t feel the nerves. We planned it in such a fun way; it was very spontaneous, with Rinku Bhai bowling the 19th over. I was pretty sure Siraj Bhai was going to bowl the last over, but then Surya Bhai just came on to bowl and got it to a super over.
So, I think everyone was pretty chill. We were having fun. That’s one of our mottos as well. We are being ruthless, but we have fun and enjoy the game, and that’s why we were able to pull this off today.”
