On Thursday, August 2, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize a Pakistani fan who had shared a video alleging that Babar Azam had declined an interview request from Irfan Pathan during the ODI World Cup 2023 match in India. Harbhajan, widely regarded as one of India’s greatest cricketers, was displeased with the language used by the Pakistani fan in his viral post and took to social media to voice his disapproval.
In a tweet that is now going viral on the internet, Harbhajan wrote, “Where is @IrfanPathan in this video?? Bolne ki tameez to aap logo ko pehle hi nahi thi. Ab aankho se dikhna bi bandh ho gya kya? Waise bi agar angreji mai swal pooch liya to pange pad jayenge.”
Last year, Pakistan traveled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Green played two matches each in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata, with their high-profile clash against India held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.
Despite entering the tournament as the top-ranked ODI team, Babar Azam’s side managed to win only four of their matches and did not advance to the semi-finals. They began their campaign with victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka but faltered as the tournament progressed, suffering consecutive losses to India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.
Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar Azam resigned as captain across all three formats. Shan Masood was named the new Test captain, while Shaheen Shah Afridi took over as T20I captain.
However, with a shift in PCB management this year, Babar was reinstated as Pakistan’s T20I captain and led the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s campaign in the ninth edition of the tournament was short-lived, as they failed to advance to the Super 8s after suffering heavy losses to the USA and India in their first two Group A matches.
