India’s captain Rohit Sharma showcased his leadership and humor during the first ODI against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. After being asked to field first, India performed exceptionally well, with fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh setting the tone before the spinners took charge.
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has been impressive, effectively managing his bowlers and maintaining pressure on the opposition. He also provided a comedic moment caught on the stump mic.
In the 14th over, Shivam Dube delivered a wide ball down the leg side, which Pathum Nissanka missed. The ball grazed his thigh pad, and while the bowler believed it had touched the bat, keeper KL Rahul made an appeal.
Skipper Rohit Sharma was seen having a chat with KL Rahul but the duo decided against the review. Shreyas Iyer, who was standing right there, was confident about the edge. But Rohit was heard saying to both “Tum logo ko woh bolna chaiye, bat dur hai ya pad dur hai ki nhi, bat agar dur hai toh vo 100% bol ra hai aawaz aaya.”
Replying to this, KL Rahul came up with: “IPL mai wide bach jaata hai na, issi liye bol raha hai wo.”
India all over Sri Lanka with the ballĀ
India’s bowlers have dominated Sri Lanka’s batters in the ongoing ODI match. Mohammed Siraj struck first by dismissing Avishka Fernando early, and Shivam Dube followed with his first international wicket, removing Kusal Mendis.
The introduction of spinners brought a significant change in the game. Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel have been exceptionally effective, exploiting the pitch’s turn and bounce to challenge the Sri Lankan batsmen.
Pathum Nissanka stood out for Sri Lanka, scoring a solid half-century and ensuring the team surpassed 100 runs. However, he was out for 56.
India has reduced Sri Lanka to 101/5 and aims to wrap up the innings quickly and chase the target to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Having already won the T20I series 3-0, India is looking to achieve a similar outcome in the ODIs.
