On Friday (August 2), the West Indies announced their Test squad for the upcoming two-match home series against South Africa, set to begin on August 7.
The first Test will be held at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, while the second Test will take place at the National Stadium in Guyana. As part of workload management, the hosts have decided to rest vice-captain Alzarri Joseph for the series. Joseph, who featured in all three Tests against England last month, took 10 wickets.
West Indies head coach Andre Coley explained that the decision to rest Alzarri was made to give him a chance to recuperate and regain his top form. Additionally, Kevin Sinclair will miss the series as he continues to recover from a forearm injury sustained during the England series while facing Mark Wood.
“The squad we have chosen for this series is a balanced mix of experience and youth, strategically selected to maximize our performance in the conditions of Trinidad and Guyana. We have decided to rest our vice-captain Alzarri Joseph for this series,” said Coley.
“Alzarri has had a considerable workload recently, and this break will allow him to recuperate and return to peak performance. Kevin Sinclair is presently recovering from an injury,” he added.
