Kohli returned in the first ODI against Sri Lanka after the T20 World Cup 2024 win. He scored 24 runs off 32 balls before getting out to Wanindu Hasaranga. Despite his start, he couldn’t turn it into a substantial score during the 231-run chase in Colombo on August 2.
The Rohit Sharma-led side posted 230 runs in 47.5 overs, resulting in a tie. India needed just one run with two wickets left but fell short as Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka dismissed Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh in consecutive deliveries to bowl out India.
