During the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Virat Kohli added some light-hearted entertainment to the match. Despite the competitive nature of the game, with both teams vying for dominance, Kohli’s playful antics stood out.
In the midst of a tight contest, where Sri Lanka had lost Pathum Nissanka early but saw a promising partnership between Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis, Indian bowlers staged a comeback. Washington Sundar removed both Fernando and Mendis in quick succession, and Axar Patel dismissed Sadeera Samarawickrama soon after.
On the fourth ball of the 27th over, Axar Patel delivered a 90kph ball, and Samarawickrama, trying to break free, danced down the pitch and attempted a big hit. The shot didn’t come off well, resulting in a catch for Kohli, who was stationed at cover.
What stood out was Kohli’s reaction. After taking the catch, he looked over at Riyan Parag in the Indian dugout and performed the Bihu dance, delighting both the crowd and his teammates. The video of Kohli’s celebration quickly went viral online.
Sadeera Samarawickrama couldn’t make a bigger impact with the bat. The right-hander scored just 14 runs off 31 balls and slammed one four in his innings. With his wicket Sri Lanka National Cricket Team lost their fourth wicket and were left tottering at 111/4.
Virat Kohli to play key role for India with the bat
The pitch at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo has been offering great help to spinners. Therefore chasing the target won’t be easy, as was the case in the first game. India batters would be aware of the fact and would be keen to restrict Sri Lanka to as low a total as possible.
Virat Kohli will be a vital asset for his team in the chase. With him being a good player of spin, the top-order batter would be keen to make an impact. He didn’t have the kind of impact he would’ve wanted in the last game, as he perished after having a vital start with the bat.
Virat Kohli scored just 24 runz with the bat off 32 balls. The batter slammed two fours, and it will be a great opportunity for him to set the stage on fire and help his team win the game and go 1-0 up in the series.
