Indian cricket star Virat Kohli and his wife, Anushka Sharma, have been a dynamic duo since their dating days. Even before their marriage in 2017, Anushka was a significant presence in the dressing room, offering support to players like KL Rahul.
KL Rahul, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter, recently reminisced about how Anushka Sharma provided him with invaluable support during his memorable Test debut against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 2014.
KL Rahul Reflects on Anushka Sharma’s Heartfelt Support During His Challenging Test Debut
KL Rahul disclosed that Anushka Sharma attended his debut Test match at the MCG and later visited his room to offer encouragement after seeing his disappointment over not making a significant impact in his first Test for Team India.
During a recent appearance on the talk show ‘Open House with Renil,’ the Karnataka player, who regards Virat Kohli and Anushka as close friends, shared a touching story with his fans. He expressed his gratitude for Virushka’s support during the challenging beginning of his Test career in Australia.
KL Rahul said on the chat show: “Both of them have been very good to me, and I have a great story to tell you. Anushka was at the match in Australia, and after I got out, she saw that I was down and dejected while my thoughts were all over.
She came to my room and insisted that I shouldn’t be alone or dwell on my performance. She and Virat offered to take me out for dinner or sightseeing.”

The Indian wicketkeeper-batter also shared an amusing anecdote about being the “third wheel” on one of Virat and Anushka’s dinner dates, which provided him solace during a challenging period.
He mentioned that the couple frequently shared their experiences with him, which played a crucial role in helping him rebuild his confidence after a disappointing Test debut.
Rahul further noted, “I third wheeled on one of the dinner dates. Both Virat and Anushka shared their stories, describing moments when they had endured failure in their careers. That made me feel like I wasn’t the only one who ruined his first impression.”
In closing, Rahul expressed his gratitude to the couple for their support during his difficult times and mentioned that he remains in contact with Anushka.
He signed off by saying, “It was nice of Anushka to do it, as I didn’t know how she could understand what I was going through. We still stay in touch and exchange a few messages, although Anushka’s are about my dog mostly.”
Currently, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are touring Sri Lanka with the Indian ODI squad. India will play the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, August 7, in Colombo.
