Former India Under-19 cricketer Shreevats Goswami has criticized Rishabh Pant over his recent social media post about Neeraj Chopra. Pant’s post aimed to rally support for Chopra before his javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics 2024.
On August 7, Pant pledged to reward 100,089 rupees to the social media user who liked and commented the most on his post if Chopra secured a gold medal. Additionally, Pant promised flight tickets to 10 other individuals as a secondary incentive. Neeraj Chopra will compete in the javelin throw final on August 8, aiming to defend the gold medal he won at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Shreevats Goswami has sharply criticized Rishabh Pant for his social media post about Neeraj Chopra.
Shreevats Goswami voiced his astonishment at Rishabh Pant’s unconventional post and suggested that Pant should consider dismissing his Public Relations (PR) team. Typically, such posts are managed by a PR team, and it appears that this may have been the case with Pant’s recent social media activity.
“I am confused ? Yeh sab kya chal raha hai ? Rishabh , you need to get rid of your PR mere bhai .. (What’s this going on? You need to get rid of the PR team, brother),” Shreevats Goswami posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Goswami was clearly taken aback by Rishabh Pant’s unexpected post and expressed his dissatisfaction with the Indian wicketkeeper-batter. Known for his active presence on social media, Shreevats Goswami maintains strong connections with numerous international cricketers, which he developed throughout his playing career.
Shreevats Goswami’s cricket career
On October 19, 2024, Shreevats Goswami announced his retirement from professional cricket. Over his career, he accumulated 3,019 runs in 61 first-class matches, averaging 32.46. Primarily associated with Bengal for most of his domestic career, Goswami later played for Tripura.
Goswami was a key member of the Indian Under-19 team that clinched the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. He also had stints in the IPL with four teams: Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rishabh Pant struggled to make an impact on his return to ODI cricket.
Rishabh Pant was part of India’s squad that won the T20 World Cup 2024 in June, where he served as both the designated wicketkeeper-batter and batted at No. 3.
Recently, Pant participated in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He did not feature in the first two games but was included in the third match, replacing KL Rahul in the lineup. Unfortunately, Pant failed to make a significant impact, being dismissed for just 6 runs off 9 balls after being stumped by Maheesh Theekshana. This match marked his return to ODI cricket following a serious accident.
