Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the Men in Blue clinched the 2024 T20 World Cup, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought. Their previous ICC title was the 2013 Champions Trophy, won under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, with Rohit Sharma as part of that squad.
The last Champions Trophy took place in 2017, where Pakistan secured their first-ever title. Led by Sarfraz Ahmed, Pakistan defeated India by 180 runs in the final at The Oval, setting a target of 339 runs and dismissing India for 158 to claim the trophy.
A fan requested Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer to win the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for February-March 2025 in Pakistan. Their reaction to the fan’s request has become a viral sensation on social media.
Recently, the Men in Blue experienced a 0-2 defeat against Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series. This series was their penultimate ODI series before the upcoming Champions Trophy. The Rohit Sharma-led squad will next face England in an ODI series at home from February 6 to 12.
There Is Never Going To Be Complacency – Rohit Sharma
Following India’s ODI series loss to Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma emphasized that there was no room for complacency under his leadership. He assured that such an attitude was unacceptable when playing for India and addressed concerns regarding the teamโs difficulties with spin bowling.
Rohit was the leading run-scorer in the series against Sri Lanka, amassing 157 runs at an average of 52.33 and a strike rate of 141.44, including two half-centuries. Unfortunately, other batters did not provide sufficient support, leading to India’s failure to chase the target in all three matches.
At 37, Rohit will now focus on Test cricket. The Indian team will next face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series next month, followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand in October. The red-ball season will wrap up with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
