Jofra Archer’s sensational low catch in The Hundred
Here’s the video of Jofra Archer’s sensational low catch in The Hundred:
During The Hundred 2024 match between Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave on August 8 at Kennington Oval, England pacer Jofra Archer delivered an outstanding fielding performance.
Archer had a solid outing with both bat and ball for Southern Brave. Although he didn’t claim any wickets, he maintained good bowling lines and contributed 10 runs off 6 balls with the bat.
However, his standout moment came in the field when he executed a spectacular catch to dismiss Oval Invincibles’ Dawid Malan. In the 48th ball of the second innings, Southern Brave bowler Chris Jordan delivered a full, quick ball outside off, which Malan drove powerfully but without perfect timing. The ball sped toward mid-off, where Archer was positioned. The pacer swiftly moved to his left and executed a low catch, plucking the ball just inches from the ground.
Dawid Malan struggled with the bat, managing only 14 runs off 31 balls, including a single six. After his dismissal, Jordan Cox delivered a standout performance, scoring 46 runs off 29 balls with 7 fours and 1 six.
Sam Curran also played a crucial role, contributing 35 runs off 18 balls, including 5 sixes. His explosive innings helped secure a 6-wicket victory, as the team chased down the target of 119 runs in just 85 balls.
In the first innings, Southern Brave had a poor batting display. James Vince was the top scorer with 52 runs, while the rest of the top and middle order struggled. Contributions from Kieron Pollard (18), Jofra Archer (10), and Chris Jordan (12) added some lower-order runs, leading to a total of 118-8.
Sam Curran talks about his performance in the game
Sam Curran, who was awarded the Hero of the Game, talked about the team’s effort, saying that they complemented each other well. He said that being an all-rounder, he is confident of batting at any position. While speaking about the same, he explained:
“Huge win. Two in-form teams at the moment, top of the table clash, we knew we needed to win this game. First place goes straight through to Lord’s, that’s all we are focused on. That’s why we bowled first, saw the conditions, little bit of rain in the air and overcast conditions, we bowled outstandingly well. We complemented each other really well. Looked really tricky with the bat there.
“At the top, you got to take those risks, Jacky showed that intent with the first ball and then Coxy played really well to anchor the innings. Really happy with the win. Really enjoying the environment, we’ve had the same group for four years, enjoying the roles that I am playing. Being an all-rounder, you get thrown around. I can come in at 4, 5, 6 and be really adaptable. I love my batting. When I am batting well, I can be really confident with my bowling. I am really confident,” he concluded.
