Former South Africa international Morne Morkel has been named the new bowling coach for India’s men’s team. His contract is scheduled to commence on September 1, according to reports.
“Yes, Morne Morkel has been appointed bowling coach of the senior India men’s team,” Shah told PTI.
Morkel brings valuable international coaching experience, having previously been the bowling coach for the Pakistan team for nearly a year. At 39, he was the top choice for the role under new chief coach Gautam Gambhir, with whom he has previously collaborated at the Lucknow Super Giants.
The 39-year-old has accumulated a total of 544 international wickets across 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is for South Africa. According to a report by News 18 on Sunday (July 20), Morne Morkel, a former South African fast bowler who previously collaborated with Gautam Gambhir during his time as mentor at the Lucknow Super Giants, is a leading candidate for the position of Team India’s new bowling coach.
