In a significant setback for Bangladesh before their two-Test series against Pakistan, Mahmudul Hasan has been sidelined from the World Test Championship 2023-25 due to a groin injury.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced this on August 17. As of now, a replacement for Hasan, the key opener, has not been named for the series beginning August 21 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Mahmudul Hasan is sidelined from the Pakistan Test series due to an injury.
Mahmudul Hasan suffered a right groin strain, sidelining him for at least three weeks and significantly affecting Bangladesh’s preparations for the crucial Test series in Pakistan. Hasan, who had been in excellent form for Bangladesh A against Pakistan Shaheens in Islamabad, injured himself while fielding in a four-day match, missing the chance to bat in the second innings.
He had recently made notable contributions with scores of 65, 69, and 65 in tour matches. His absence is a considerable setback for Bangladesh as they face Pakistan in the upcoming Test series.
Mahmudul Hasan is being rested for three weeks: Debashish Chowdhury
BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz on Saturday (August 17): “We have received a mail regarding Mahmudul where it is stated that he sustained injury to his right groin and as a result he is being rested for three weeks.”
The first Test of the two-match series is scheduled to begin on August 21 in Rawalpindi, with the second Test set for August 30 at the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi. Despite political unrest in Pakistan, the Bangladesh cricket team arrived early to adjust to local conditions and prepared extensively, completing a three-day practice session in Lahore before heading to Islamabad.
Bangladesh players are experiencing internet issues in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh players are encountering difficulties with their hotel accommodations in Pakistan, notably with slow internet connectivity. This issue has hindered their ability to stay in touch with their families back home. The players have raised their concerns with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the inadequate internet service.
The Bangladesh team management has reported the issue to both the BCB and PCB, as it could impact the players’ comfort off the field during the Test series. Previously, Mushtaq Ahmed, Pakistan cricket legend and Bangladesh’s spin bowling coach, expressed gratitude to the PCB for their effective handling of the logistics related to Bangladesh’s rescheduled arrival for the two-Test series.
