India’s star batter Rinku Singh has finally commented on Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style. Rinku, who has had the opportunity to share the dressing room with Gambhir, experienced his mentorship during Gambhir’s time with Kolkata Knight Riders before he became India’s head coach.
Rinku has been part of KKR since 2018 and interacted with Gambhir during his tenure as mentor. Additionally, Rinku discussed his experience playing under Rohit Sharma, having featured in several T20Is where Sharma led the Indian team leading up to the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rinku Singh speaks out on Gautam Gambhir’s approach to coaching.
In an interview with Sports Tak, Rinku Singh shared his thoughts on sharing the dressing room with Gautam Gambhir. He noted that Gambhir is serious during matches but, like the other players, he enjoys himself after the game.
“He is very serious about the game. You might have seen that he sits very silently during a game. But he enjoys after the match is finished. It’s not like he is serious every time. He becomes normal after a match gets over,” Rinku said.
Gautam Gambhir has always been known for his focus and intensity. Even as a player, he rarely smiled and remained deeply concentrated on his work. As a coach, he maintains a serious demeanor in both the dugout and the dressing room.
Gautam Gambhir and Rinku Singh were teammates in the KKR dressing room.
Gambhir served as the mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants during their inaugural IPL seasons in 2022 and 2023, helping them reach the playoffs. However, he moved to Kolkata Knight Riders as their mentor before IPL 2024.
His impact was significant, as KKR won their third IPL title that year. Following this success, Gambhir was offered the position of India’s head coach, which he eagerly accepted.
Rinku Singh speaks about Rohit Sharma
Rinku Singh was also questioned about his relationship with Rohit Sharma. Rinku had the opportunity to play under Rohit’s captaincy in T20Is earlier this year as India prepared for the T20 World Cup 2024.
“He is very good. He talks with the youngsters, is very supportive. Playing under his captaincy is very enjoyable,” Rinku replied.
Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma formed a remarkable partnership in T20Is, highlighted by a thrilling victory for India. During the third T20I against Afghanistan earlier this year, India was struggling at 22-4 when Rohit and Rinku combined forces.
They put together a stunning 190-run stand off just 95 balls for the fifth wicket, propelling India past the 200-run mark. Rohit scored 121 off 69 balls, while Rinku remained unbeaten on 69 from 39 balls. Although Rohit has since retired from T20Is, Rinku Singh is seen as a promising future talent for India.
