Dhruv Jurel has made a notable start to his international career under Rohit Sharma, featuring in two Test matches and two T20Is so far. He impressed with a significant 46 on his Test debut in Rajkot and followed up with his highest Test score of 90 in Ranchi, demonstrating his patience and focus.()
As he rises in the international cricket ranks, Jurel has shown considerable promise. In a recent interview with Sports Tak, he praised Rohit Sharma’s leadership, describing him as a relaxed captain and sharing insights into his supportive interaction with young players on the team.
“To be honest, he is very chill. Jab tumse baat karenge toh aisa nahi lagta ki woh senior hai, tum junior ho. Humesha bahut casually baat karte hai,” Jurel said.
Dhruv Jurel also mentioned that Rohit Sharma effectively bridges the gap between junior and senior players, making a concerted effort to ensure young players feel at ease within the team.
“He always said, ‘If you need any help just come over, I don’t have any problem.’ Aapko comfortable feel karana. Test cricket mein jab naam aaya tha tab captain Rohit bhaiya hi the toh unse baat kari. Bahut accha laga. Like sab normal hi hai,” Jurel added.
In the interview, the young wicketkeeper-batter was asked about his closest friends in the Indian national team. He named his Rajasthan Royals teammates, Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
“Riyan [Parag] and [Yashasvi] Jaiswal are closest friends among India cricket team players, they also play for RR,” he said.
Dhruv Jurel was also questioned about Virat Kohli and the impact the former captain has had on him. Jurel stated that he aspires to learn how to dominate bowlers in the way Kohli does, and he finds Kohli’s presence as an international cricketer to be a significant motivator to improve his own performance.
“I always try to learn because he is a legend of cricket. So whenever I talked to him, I only talked about cricket and when you around him, you feel that aura that Virat Kohli is there. So that is a good thing that we feel that we have to do something that we also feel that people have come to ask, that there is aura. Because he has played for like 15 years for India and he has always dominated. So that thing is very inspiring. So I will try to bring that thing in,” said Jurel on Kohli.
The Indian cricket team now has a new coach, Gautam Gambhir, who replaced Rahul Dravid, the coach who led the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 earlier this year. Gambhir’s tenure has seen a mixed start, with India winning the T20I series but losing the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Looking ahead, Gambhir will oversee India’s home Test season, which includes series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, followed by a Test series against Australia as part of the WTC 2023-25 campaign.
