Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali discussed the potential inclusion of Mayank Yadav in the Indian squad for the upcoming Australia tour. Ali suggested that if Yadav is fully fit, he could pose a significant challenge to the Australian batters in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
India’s cricketing history has not been particularly renowned for its fast bowlers, but young Delhi pacer Mayank Yadav has caught the eye of the cricketing world. Yadav showcased his talent during the IPL 2024 with the Lucknow Super Giants. Despite being limited to just three matches due to injury, he made a notable impact.
Yadav’s performances, including impressive spells against the Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, earned him two Player of the Match awards. Consistently bowling at around 155 kmph, he caused considerable trouble for opposing batters and played a crucial role in securing victories for his team.
Unfortunately, Yadav’s tournament was cut short by injury, and he has since been working on his recovery at the NCA. He was also absent from the Duleep Trophy 2024. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently commented on Yadav’s potential inclusion in the Indian team, noting that while there is interest, his spot remains uncertain as he continues to recover.
Basit Ali discusses the decision to include Mayank Yadav in the Indian squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In a recent video on Hafiz Muhammad Imran’s YouTube channel, Basit Ali discussed the possibility of Mayank Yadav being included in the Indian squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He noted that if Yadav is in good health, he could pose a significant challenge to top Australian batsmen such as Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Travis Head.
“My prayer is that he gets fit. Because the report I have received from India, that he is still in NCA. If he is there, that kid is ready, completely fit, then I will see. Labuschagne, Smith, and Travis Head come forward. Change my name if he doesn’t hit batters on their head. He will make them run away.”
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to kick off on November 22 at Optus Stadium in Perth. The second Test, a day-night match, will be held in Adelaide starting December 6. Following that, the third Test is scheduled for Gabba in Brisbane from December 14, with the Boxing Day Test taking place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) starting December 26. The series will conclude with the final Test in Sydney, beginning January 3.
