On Monday, the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) unveiled the first-ever Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL), scheduled to take place from September 15 to 22. The event will feature both men’s and women’s teams in competition, with five men’s teams and three women’s teams contending for the titles.
Sixteen matches of the Uttarakhand Premier League will take place at Dehradun’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, with SSPARK Sports and Entertainment overseeing the event.
The Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) aims to offer a platform for emerging talent from the state to demonstrate their skills and gain experience alongside established players.
To ensure a level playing field, the UPL Player Draft will be held on September 1 in Dehradun. During the draft, the eight participating teams will each select one marquee player to join their squad.
The five men’s teams will have the opportunity to select from a pool of six marquee players: Akash Madhwal, Rajan Kumar, Deepak Dhapola, Swapnil Singh, Aditya Tare, and Kunal Chandela.
For the women’s teams, the marquee player choices include Ekta Bisht, Punam Raut, and Mansi Joshi.
Mahim Verma, secretary, Cricket Association of Uttarakhand, said, “We are delighted with the response we have received from various stakeholders since the idea of conducting the Uttarakhand Premier League came about.
“We are proud and extremely excited to be introducing Uttarakhand’s first-ever premier T20 competition that will introduce fans and players to an atmosphere which the Indian Premier League is known for.
“It’s an atmosphere that helps in the accelerated development of young players, and at the same time, provides the fans with the chance to enjoy entertaining cricket with their loved ones.”
