Three Indian cricketers—Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Umran Malik—have been ruled out of the first round of the 2024 Duleep Trophy. The BCCI has not provided a reason for Jadeja’s release, while Siraj and Umran are sidelined due to illness and will not recover in time for the tournament’s opening week in September.
“Both Siraj and Malik are suffering from an illness and are not expected to be fit in time for their Duleep Trophy fixtures,” read a statement from BCCI.
Siraj was scheduled to play for Team B, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, but will be replaced by Navdeep Saini. Although Umran Malik has recovered from dengue, he remains unfit for competitive play.
He was set to join Team C under Ruturaj Gaikwad and will be substituted by Madhya Pradesh’s Gaurav Yadav. No replacement has been named for Jadeja. The Duleep Trophy begins on September 5 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
