On Thursday, August 29, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar posted a photo on social media to commemorate his mother Rajni Tendulkar’s 87th birthday. The image shows his mother cutting a cake while surrounded by family members, marking the special occasion.
“Having all of us together for Aai’s birthday is the best thing one could ask for. We love you so much, Aai. You mean the world to us. Happy birthday! तुझ्या प्रेमाच्या सावलीतच आम्ही सुखी आहोत. वाढदिवसाच्या शुभेच्छा, आई!,” Tendulkar captioned the post.
Sachin Tendulkar, known for his strong family bonds, frequently shares photos of himself enjoying moments with his loved ones.
Making his international debut for India on November 15, 1989, against Pakistan in Karachi, Sachin played his final match at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 14 to 16, 2013. At his farewell Test press conference in Mumbai, Sachin revealed that he requested the BCCI to schedule his final game in Mumbai so his mother could witness it.
“I had requested BCCI to keep my farewell match in Mumbai so that my mother can see me playing. I wanted it to be a surprise; she came to know from you (the media),” said Tendulkar.
He mentioned that his mother was overjoyed to watch him play. “My mother was incredibly thrilled to see me in action. I had asked the MCA to reserve a room for me at the guesthouse, but my mother chose to stay and watch every ball instead. When I visited her in the president’s box, I could see her happiness in her eyes.”
At 51, Tendulkar, who retired from international cricket 11 years ago, still holds records for the most runs in both Test and ODI formats, as well as for playing the most matches. However, his record for the most ODI centuries was surpassed by Virat Kohli during the ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium on November 15.
