The young Australian opener’s audacious fifty featured daring scoops and ramps off India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, setting the tone for a thrilling five-match Test series between the two cricketing powerhouses. But it wasn’t just Konstas’ bat that grabbed attention—he also found himself at the heart of fiery on-field clashes with Indian legend Virat Kohli and ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
The Boxing Day Test saw a fiery showdown between Konstas and Kohli, with the young Australian opener refusing to back down, earning both admiration and scorn from fans. The drama didn’t stop there—by the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Konstas was at it again, locking horns with Jasprit Bumrah during a tense final over on Day 1, raising the stakes even higher.
The already fired-up Indian pacer struck back by dismissing Usman Khawaja in the very same over, shooting a piercing death stare at the bold Australian youngster in the packed stands of the SCG during the New Year’s Test. Despite these heated encounters with India, Konstas remained unshaken, showcasing the relentless fighting spirit that became the hallmark of his debut series.

Sam Konstas said on Code Sports: “I loved every second of it, but there are great learnings to be had and reflected on, and hopefully in future tours I can learn from that.”
Konstas also opened up about his conversation with Virat Kohli following their fiery exchange at the MCG. He revealed that he told Kohli how much he idolized him, to which the former Indian skipper responded with surprising humility. Konstas described Kohli as “down to earth” and shared that the Indian legend wished him the best of luck for Australia’s upcoming Sri Lanka tour.
Konstas said: “I had a little chat after the game telling him that I idolize him, and it’s obviously a huge honor playing against him. When I did verse him, I was like, ‘Wow, Virat Kohli is batting.’ He just had that presence about him, all the Indian crowd getting amongst it. Chanting his name. It was quite surreal.”
Sam added: “He was very down to earth. A lovely person, just wishing me all the best. I’ve idolized him from a young age, and he’s a legend of the game. He was very kind and wished me all the best, saying hopefully I do well on the tour of Sri Lanka if I’m in. My whole family loves Virat.”
