The Indian cricket squad left Mumbai for New York on Saturday night, however, Pandya remained absent as he was still abroad.
Hardik Pandya, the skipper of Mumbai Indians, is scheduled to land in New York on Sunday afternoon Eastern Time. Pandya, who has faced considerable criticism for his leadership and individual performance during the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been vacationing abroad since the conclusion of his team’s campaign. Sources close to him have confirmed his imminent arrival to join the Indian team.
The Indian cricket contingent embarked from Mumbai to New York on Saturday night, but Pandya remained absent as he was still out of the country. Following a challenging IPL season, both personally and professionally, Pandya required some time away. Despite his recent struggles, he is expected to return in time for the initial practice session in New York. As the vice-captain under Rohit Sharma, Pandya is gearing up for the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the US and West Indies from June 1-29.
Throughout the IPL, Pandya’s performance fell short of expectations, and doubts were raised about his leadership abilities as Mumbai Indians ended up at the bottom of the table. MI coach Mark Boucher expressed his desire for Pandya to view the experience as a chance for growth and learning.
“A lot of the stuff that he’s going through is, personally, maybe a little uncalled for. It’ll certainly be a learning curve for Hardik as his growth in leadership. While times are tough now, a couple of things will pass and it’ll make him a tougher leader and it’ll certainly grow him in the role as well,” Boucher told press.

Meanwhile, the majority of the Indian team, with the exception of a few players, boarded the flight on May 25. Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Avesh Khan, who participated in Qualifier Two of the IPL, as well as Rinku Singh, currently engaged in the IPL final, will join the team at a later time. Furthermore, Virat Kohli has been granted permission to join the squad at a later stage.
