Ahead of the T20 World Cup, the West Indies squad has been dealt a significant blow with the loss of Jason Holder due to injury. To compensate for his absence, Obed McCoy has been brought in as Holder’s replacement by the West Indies team management.

The West Indies team has faced a major setback as Jason Holder has been sidelined from the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 due to injury. In response, the team has enlisted Obed McCoy as Holder’s replacement, acknowledging the necessity for Holder’s recovery period.

Holder, who had been keen on participating in the T20 World Cup, suffered the injury during the 2024 County Championship. Desmond Haynes, the chief selector for the West Indies, expressed regret over losing the services of the all-rounder, emphasizing that Holder’s absence would be felt both on and off the field. Haynes expressed optimism about Holder’s return to the squad in the near future.

“Jason is an experienced player in our set-up. His absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field. We look forward to having a fully fit Jason with us again soon,” said Haynes.

Haynes also expressed confidence in McCoy’s abilities, stating that the board believes he will inject a renewed sense of vigor and dynamism into the squad.

“While it is unfortunate to lose a player of Jason’s caliber, we are confident in the abilities of Obed McCoy. Obed has shown remarkable skill and promise in his performances, and this opportunity will allow him to further showcase his talent on the international stage. We believe he will bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the squad,” said Haynes.

Holder boasts a record of 63 T20Is for the West Indies, during which he has amassed 66 wickets and contributed 491 runs. His most recent T20I appearance was against Australia in February of this year.
