Former England cricket star Eoin Morgan shared his thoughts on India’s prospects in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. He emphasized the importance of Chennai Super Kings’ versatile player Shivam Dube, predicting that Dube could be a game-changer in the tournament.
Indian cricketers are entering the T20 World Cup 2024 on a positive note following their commendable performances in the IPL 2024. Each member of the squad showcased glimpses of brilliance during the tournament, instilling confidence as they approach the global stage.
For India, the T20 World Cup 2024 presents another opportunity to break their dry spell in ICC tournaments, which dates back to their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Despite several close calls, including the heartbreak in the ICC World Cup 2023 final against Australia, India remains determined to claim the coveted title.
Their journey in the ICC World Cup 2023 was remarkable, remaining undefeated until the final match where they faced Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Although they fell short in the final showdown, India’s unbeaten streak highlighted their prowess in the cricketing arena.
As they gear up for the T20 World Cup 2024, skipper Rohit Sharma aims to lead his team to victory, aiming to secure a memorable farewell for coach Rahul Dravid, whose tenure concludes after the tournament.
Eoin Morgan believes that India can win the T20 World Cup in 2024. According to him, they got hurt a lot after losing World Cups and they would be eager to win the tournament. Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained:
“I think they (India) can (win), because they have go to a stage now where Adelaide would hurt, recently losing the (ODI) World Cup at home to Australia in front of 1,25,000 Indian fans.”
Eoin Morgan says Shivam Dube has to play, I think he’ll set this World Cup alight.
Shivam Dube’s outstanding displays in the IPL 2024 earned him a spot in the Indian roster for the T20 World Cup 2024. The tall and versatile all-rounder showcased his prowess by dominating the spin bowlers throughout the tournament, accumulating an impressive 396 runs at a staggering average of 162.30.
With conditions favoring spin in the USA and the Caribbean, Shivam Dube no doubt would be crucial for Team India. Eoin Morgan believes that power hitting will be a point of difference for the team and as per him, Dube should play. He added:
“The spinner will come into the game, the level of batsmanship will come into the game if the wickets slow down like we think. But also that excellence in power hitting is the point of difference for me. Shivam Dube has to play, I think he’ll set this World Cup alight.”
India’s warm-up match is scheduled for June 1st against Bangladesh, serving as a preparatory fixture before their official campaign kick-off. Their inaugural match in the T20 World Cup 2024 is slated for June 5th against Ireland.
