Paul Collingwood, the ex-captain of England, foresees a final showdown between the Three Lions and the home team, West Indies. Yet, the majority of retired cricketers are leaning towards a face-off between India and Australia. Renowned Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth, and ex-Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden are all rooting for a thrilling encounter between these two powerhouses on June 29th.
“My top teams would be India and Australia,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
“Top two for me, India and Australia,” Hayden said.
“The final will be India vs Australia, which would be [India’s] revenge for the ODI World Cup in the upcoming tournament,” said Sreesanth.
Former Protea fast bowler Chirs Morris wants to see India take on South Africa in the big final.
“I think it will be India vs South Africa in the T20 World Cup final. India are the big tournament team and they do well in World Cups,” said Chris Morris.
The Indian team has commenced their training sessions in the United States.
Following two months of rigorous night-time cricket matches, the Indian cricket squad, without Virat Kohli, initiated their training regimen for the T20 World Cup with a morning practice session, aligning with the 10:30 AM kick-off times for all their preliminary matches.
Having participated in 90% of their matches amidst the intense heat of the Indian summer, the focus now shifts to adapting to the pleasant mornings of the T20 World Cup, where temperatures are expected to range between 25 to 27 degrees Celsius with minimal humidity. Adjusting to the challenges posed by the white kookaburra ball in slightly windy conditions during morning sessions is crucial. To tackle this, the support staff has prioritized acclimatizing the players to the morning conditions before delving into skill training (net sessions) at the Nassau County ground on the outskirts of the city.
