Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly expressed his belief that the Rohit Sharma-led squad could emerge victorious in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the West Indies and the USA. Ganguly emphasized the significance of players’ performances in the IPL 2024, indicating their potential benefits for Team India in the global tournament.
India claimed the T20 World Cup trophy in the inaugural event held in 2007 in South Africa, triumphing over Pakistan in the final match. Although they reached the final again in the 2014 edition, the team faced a defeat by six wickets against the Sri Lankan cricket team in Dhaka.
The Team Has A Number Of Quality Players – Sourav Ganguly
During a discussion with Revsportz, Sourav Ganguly conveyed his assurance in the Indian team’s capability to secure victory in the T20 World Cup. Ganguly emphasized that India is poised to begin as frontrunners in the forthcoming tournament, attributing this to the team’s caliber and the advantageous conditions awaiting them in New York.
“Absolutely, I do. The team has a number of quality players and are going into the tournament on the back of some serious T20 cricket in the form of the IPL. That should help them in New York. What will also go in their favor are the bigger grounds, and it will help our spinners, for example. In a World Cup, you can never rule out India just because of the simple reason there is a lot of quality in the team,” Ganguly told Revsportz.
Rohit Sharma led the Indian team in the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia. The Men in Blue reached the semifinals but failed to advance to the final match. The Indian team suffered a 10-wicket loss to eventual champions England in the semifinal match in Adelaide.
