India’s wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson shared his thoughts on being selected for the T20 World Cup 2024. He expressed how being in the same dressing room as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli boosts the players’ morale and inspires them to win matches for India.
After several years of hard work, Sanju Samson will be playing in a World Cup for Team India for the first time. He was chosen as one of the two keepers in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, thanks to his outstanding performance in IPL 2024.
Samson had an exceptional season in the IPL with the Rajasthan Royals. The keeper-batter displayed remarkable maturity, showcasing his potential. He led his team to the playoffs with his impressive leadership and outstanding batting.
Scoring 531 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 153.47, Sanju Samson is now eager to make a significant impact for Team India and contribute to winning the World Cup. Playing alongside legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, he will be a crucial player for the team.
Sanju Samson mentioned that joining Team India for the T20 World Cup 2024 has been a unique experience for him. He feels fortunate to have reached this stage, a dream for many. He added that his current focus is on perfecting his practice sessions. In an interview with BCCI, he stated:
“Right from the moment I landed here, IPL has been completely off and it’s a completely different stage. I am telling myself Sanju you are somewhere I think lots and lots of people dream about.
“And then it’s like okay boss what else do I need to do? I need to hit the gym session, I need to do my recovery, I need to do the practice sessions. And mentally it was like I didn’t have to motivate myself.”

Sanju Samson, while celebrating his selection in the team, spoke about the influence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the dressing room. He mentioned that observing these two Indian cricket legends inspires him to consider how he can contribute to winning games for the team. He elaborated:
“It was like automatically things were supposed to happen and it was happening. And then actually when you get into the atmosphere when you meet Mr. Rohit Sharma, Mr. Virat Kohli. You look at them and then you get inspired, then you get motivated.
“And then there is no looking back actually only looking front. How can Sanju Samson help the Indian team to win more games? I think it has always been to understand what it takes to be a World Cup cricketer for an Indian team. And I think how badly I want it. I am very very grateful for the support which I receive wherever we go. I am so very grateful,” he concluded.
