Anrich Nortje, the pace sensation from South Africa, has ascended in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings, buoyed by his outstanding display against Sri Lanka in their inaugural match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Following his remarkable performance against Sri Lanka in their opening match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has advanced in the recently updated ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings.
Nortje’s outstanding performance against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2024 saw him record figures of 4/7 in his four overs. Despite his remarkable effort, the Proteas clinched a commanding victory over Sri Lanka by six wickets in New York. As a result of his stellar display, Nortje catapulted nine places higher in the Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings.
Presently, Nortje holds the second position among pace bowlers in the rankings, with Australia’s Josh Hazlewood sitting fifth. At the summit of the list are England’s Adil Rashid, Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka, and Axar Patel from India.
Afghanistan’s medium-pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi surged to 10th place in the Bowling Rankings following his stellar showing against Uganda at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Meanwhile, Tabraiz Shamsi and Reece Topley slipped out of the top 10.
In the most recent update to the Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, Afghan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran saw significant upward movement, propelled by their outstanding performances in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Gurbaz and Zadran orchestrated a formidable partnership of 154 runs while opening for Afghanistan in their resounding victory over Uganda. This stellar display resulted in each player climbing four places in the format’s rankings.
The 20-year-old Gurbaz has now secured a position in the top 20, with Zadran trailing closely behind, occupying the 24th spot.
Despite these changes, the top 10 remains unchanged, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the pack as the top-ranked batter in the format, followed by England’s Phil Salt and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan.
In a noteworthy shift, Shakib Al Hasan has capitalized on an uncharacteristically underwhelming performance by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga against South Africa. As a result, the Bangladesh all-rounder has surged past Hasaranga to claim the top spot in the All-Rounder Rankings.
