Pakistan’s consecutive defeats in the T20 World Cup 2024 have placed their qualification prospects in doubt, and England faces a similar predicament following Scotland’s commanding victory over Oman on the same day India triumphed over Pakistan in New York.

Both Pakistan and England, finalists in the T20 World Cup 2022, with England emerging as champions in Australia, now confront the possibility of elimination in the group stages.

In Group B, Scotland leads the table with five points from three matches, buoyed by their remarkable performance, including a triumph over Oman, positioning them favorably in the competition.

England secured a single point from a washout against Scotland in their tournament debut and suffered a defeat against Australia in their subsequent match. Meanwhile, Scotland clinched victories against Namibia and Oman. As it stands, England, with games still to play, can only achieve a maximum of 5 points. However, Scotland’s impressive run chase against Oman, reaching their target of 150/7 in just 13.1 overs, means England must now secure significant victories in their remaining two matches to surpass Scotland’s net run rate.

England’s path to qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s is riddled with challenges. With Australia still having two matches remaining, the pressure intensifies for England. If Australia wins either of these matches, they secure a spot in the Super 8, leaving only one more spot from Group B. Scotland, boasting a superior run rate, currently holds a favorable position. England, however, must secure convincing victories in their remaining matches to maintain their hopes of Super 8 qualification alive. Additionally, they need to rely on Scotland not upsetting Australia in the final league game. The stakes have never been higher for England.

Pakistan’s road to qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s is challenging. With only two teams advancing from each of the four groups to the second stage, Pakistan must secure victories in its remaining matches against Canada and Ireland. Additionally, Pakistan’s progression to the Super 8s hinges on favorable outcomes in other group games.

“Have to win the last two matches. Will sit and discuss our mistakes but looking forward to the last two matches,”: Babar Azam
