USA cricketers engaged in a heated discussion on X (formerly Twitter) following Shayan Jahangir’s dismissal for a golden duck against India on Wednesday.
USA’s impressive streak came to a halt on Wednesday as the co-hosts suffered a setback against India, losing by seven wickets in their T20 World Cup clash in New York. Pursuing a target of 111, India reached 111/3 in 18.2 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 50 off 49 balls. Additionally, Shivam Dube contributed an undefeated 31 off 35 deliveries. Saurabh Netravalkar showcased his bowling prowess for USA, claiming two wickets.
USA posted a total of 110/8 in 20 overs, primarily propelled by Nitish Kumar’s brisk innings of 27 runs off 23 balls. India’s bowling attack, led by Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya, proved to be formidable, with Singh claiming 4 wickets for 9 runs and Pandya securing 2 wickets for 14 runs.
USA suffered a stunning collapse in their batting lineup, with opener Shayan Jahangir departing for a golden duck. Additionally, Andries Gous (2), Aaron Jones (11), Corey Anderson (15), Harmeet Singh (10), Shadley van Schalkwyk (11*), and Jasdeep Singh (2) failed to surpass the 20-run mark.
The outcome triggered a heated exchange on X (formerly Twitter) between Jaskaran Malhotra and Ali Khan. Malhotra, who last represented USA in 2022, clashed with Khan, who is currently playing for them in the T20 World Cup.
Jaskaran shared a meme from another account, which poked fun at Jahangir. The post stated an earlier quote from Jahangir, where he said, “Last year in the World Cup qualifiers, I told the ICC people that one of my dreams is to play against Virat Kohli and show him who’s king.”
The post further added, “And this happened when he played against Virat and team,” with a photo of Jahangir departing after his golden duck on Wednesday.
Reacting to the post, Khan replied, “Never expected this from my ex team mate. Hate towards another player! Very unprofessional of you @JaskaranUSA.”
Responding to Khan, Jaskaran wrote, “Just to let you know. Go see my post. How am I supporting you and my team. Please go and check brother.”
Jaskaran gained widespread recognition in 2021 when he made history by smashing six consecutive sixes in one over during an ODI match against Papua New Guinea, with Gaudi Toka on the receiving end. This remarkable feat made him only the second cricketer ever to accomplish this in an ODI. Furthermore, Jaskaran etched his name in the record books by becoming the first player from the USA to notch a century in ODIs, amassing an unbeaten 173 runs from just 124 deliveries.
