Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri has showered praise on Rishabh Pant for his exceptional performances in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Pant’s journey back to the Indian team after a life-threatening car accident over a year ago has been remarkable. Despite severe injuries, Pant’s resilience saw him making a strong comeback. He made his official return during the 2024 Indian Premier League season, captaining the Delhi Capitals and showcasing his prowess with the bat.
In IPL 2024, Pant amassed 446 runs in 13 matches, displaying an outstanding strike rate of 155.40 and an average of nearly 41. His remarkable performances led to his inclusion in the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Pant’s official return to the Indian team came during the warm-up game against Bangladesh on June 1st in New York, where he scored 53 runs, further solidifying his position in the playing XI. Since then, Pant has played a crucial role, batting at number 3 and contributing significantly in the group matches against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA. His 42-run innings against Pakistan was particularly noteworthy, cementing his place as an indispensable asset in the team.
During a recent interview with Star Sports, Ravi Shastri and Steve Smith showered praise on Rishabh Pant for his outstanding performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Despite the challenging conditions at the Nassau County Stadium in New York, Pant has stood out with his aggressive style of play.
Ravi Shastri highlighted Pant’s natural aggression and instinctive shot-making ability. Having coached Pant during his tenure as India’s head coach, Shastri is well aware of the player’s capabilities and praised his unique approach to the game.
“Rishabh Pant is a naturally aggressive player, you know. He’s instinctive. He’ll react to what comes out of the bowler’s hand. He’s not too worried about what the pitch will do. He doesn’t get that into his mind. He is very clear with his shot selection. Once he knows how the surface is behaving, he’ll back his strength.” – Ravi Shastri said via Star Sports.
