Team India has kicked off their campaign in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with strong performances, securing a spot in the Super 8s after an undefeated run in the group stage.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team began their journey in the tournament with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Ireland. Following a disciplined bowling effort that restricted Ireland to 96 runs, the batsmen comfortably chased down the target. This was followed by a thrilling six-run triumph against traditional rivals Pakistan.
In a match where India struggled to post 119 runs on a challenging pitch in New York, their bowlers excelled once again, limiting Pakistan to 113 and securing a significant victory. The team then defeated the high-flying USA to confirm their place in the playoffs, while their final group match against Canada was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to a waterlogged outfield.
Ahead of their upcoming Super 8s match against Afghanistan in Barbados, Team India relaxed with a session of beach volleyball. The BCCI posted a video showing players like Virat Kohli, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Hardik Pandya enjoying the game.
India played their initial three matches in New York during the group stage, but their scheduled match against Canada in Florida was abandoned due to unfavorable weather conditions. Now, all of India’s Super 8s matches will be held in the Caribbean.
In the Super 8s phase, India is slated to face Afghanistan first on June 20, followed by Bangladesh on June 22, and their final Super 8s encounter against Australia on June 24.
