The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has indicated that it has not yet reached a final decision regarding the upcoming white-ball series against Afghanistan scheduled for July. Reports suggest that Afghanistan and Bangladesh are slated to compete in three ODIs and as many T20Is next month.

The series is planned to be held in Greater Noida, a venue that formerly served as Afghanistan’s home ground in India. However, the BCB’s uncertainty has cast doubt over the entire series, despite earlier announcements about rescheduling Bangladesh’s comprehensive away series against Afghanistan in July.

Originally, Afghanistan was scheduled to play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is against Bangladesh. However, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) adjusted their plans, omitting the Tests and focusing solely on the limited-overs format. According to reports, the ACB has proposed dates from July 25 to August 6 for the limited-overs matches in Greater Noida.

Amid discussions between the boards, the possibility of rescheduling the Tests to 2025 has been raised due to Bangladesh’s busy schedule this year. Consequently, uncertainty surrounds not only the Tests but also the upcoming limited-overs series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Per Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) plans to decide on the Afghanistan series after consulting with the team management. They aim to prioritize player workload management and will make a final determination following discussions with the team.

“Basically this was in discussion (playing three ODIs and three T20I against Afghanistan in Noida in July) but yet to take any final decision,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.

“The series was earlier penciled in FTP but we are yet to finalize anything in this regard (as far as playing them in July is concerned),” he added.

Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan are presently in the Caribbean for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. They are grouped together in Group 1 for the Super 8 stage, alongside India and Australia.
