The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced the revised schedule for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, which is scheduled to be hosted in Sri Lanka from July 19 to July 28. Defending champions India will commence their campaign against traditional rivals Pakistan in their opening match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Dambulla on July 19.
In the previous edition held in Bangladesh in 2022, India clinched their seventh title by defeating Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final. Originally slated for 2020, the tournament was postponed to 2021 and eventually took place in 2022 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Women’s Asia Cup 2024 will mark the first time eight teams will participate, as compared to seven teams in the last edition. India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, will compete in Group A alongside Pakistan, Nepal, and the UAE. Group B comprises Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals, scheduled for July 26. The tournament’s final is set to be held on July 28.
The Asian Cricket Council has released an updated schedule for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. On July 19, Nepal will now confront the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the afternoon, while in the evening, India will square off against Pakistan. These matches were originally slated for July 21, where Nepal was initially set to play against Pakistan in the opener, followed by India versus the UAE. The rest of the tournament schedule remains unaffected.
“Here is the updated schedule for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Brace yourselves for an action-packed tournament featuring the top 8 women’s cricket teams in Asia. Mark your calendars, as it is going to kick off on July 19th, 2024, in Dambulla, Sri Lanka!” ACC tweeted.
The Women in Blue are poised to maintain their supremacy and vie for an eighth title. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, they recently clinched a 3-0 ODI series victory over South Africa on home soil. Now, they are gearing up for a one-off Test match against the same opponent at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium later this week.
India showcased their dominance in all facets of the game throughout the three-match series against South Africa. Smriti Mandhana achieved a milestone by setting a new record for the highest runs scored by a batter in a three-match ODI series in women’s cricket history, accumulating an impressive total of 342 runs against the Proteas.
