Today, India faces reigning champions England in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. Led by Rohit Sharma, India has maintained an undefeated record in the tournament thus far.
Rohit Sharma enters the T20 World Cup semi-final following a stellar performance against Australia. His innings of 92 off 41 balls in India’s final Super Eight match laid the foundation for a convincing victory.
Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez lavished praise on Rohit ahead of the crucial clash against England. Hafeez described Rohit as the standout candidate deserving of winning the World Cup at present.
“When you set big goals then your pedigree increases. If I talk about Rohit, India’s captain, he deserves to win the World Cup. He has played like a champion. He didn’t care if there was any seam or swing,” Hafeez said.
“Special effort and you can’t praise anyone enough when you weigh their performances with Rohit, others efforts would only look smaller. Rohit is the only person at the moment who deserves to win this World Cup for India,” he added.
When discussing Rohit’s innings against Australia, Hafeez praised it as one of the finest displays by a captain.
“It was a Rohit show. We witnessed one of the best innings from a captain. If you speak about leading from the front, he changed just one thing, there was no doubt about his quality. One thing, he changed within himself was the selfless approach,” Hafeez said.
Rohit played an outstanding innings against Australia, hitting seven boundaries and eight maximums. Thanks to his contribution, India reached a huge total of 205/5.
The target ultimately proved insurmountable for Australia, resulting in India’s victory by a margin of 24 runs.
India and England last met at this stage in the previous World Cup edition.
During that match, England delivered a spectacular performance, securing a convincing win by 10 wickets. England subsequently went on to win the T20 World Cup, defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final.
