After India’s decisive 68-run victory over defending champions England, securing their place in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, Rishabh Pant received the fielding medal for his exceptional displays as wicketkeeper.
In a video shared by the BCCI, Team India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, began by congratulating the team on their triumph. He praised their performance, noting they displayed a balanced mix of aggression and composure throughout the match.
“Coordination was seamless, and every gap was covered like a well-oiled machine,” he added. This line was particularly well-received by the team who applauded their performances.
The coach also praised the outfield efforts of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, and Axar Patel, highlighting their strategic fielding positions.
Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel executed a superb run-out to dismiss Liam Livingstone, a crucial threat from England’s batting lineup. Additionally, Suryakumar Yadav contributed with a brilliant run-out to remove Adil Rashid.
Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, amidst cheers from his former teammates, presented the fielding award.
Grateful for the warm reception from his ex-teammates, Dinesh expressed humility as he reflected on the prestigious history of those who have previously awarded the fielding medal.
DK commended the team for their outstanding performances that propelled them to within reach of the summit. He also lauded Rohit for his exemplary leadership throughout.
DK said, “There are many stories in the sport but none better than the person I’m going to give this medal to. What he went through a year ago, I don’t think, six months ago we expected him to be in this team, not many would have expected him to play this sport so early but for him, to come out and play the way he did in the IPL, he made millions happy”.
Rishabh Pant was awarded the fielding medal for his standout performances against England. His sharpness and alertness behind the stumps were evident, particularly with his catch to dismiss Jos Buttler and his stumping of Moeen Ali from an unconventional position outside the leg-side, which gave India a strong start with the ball.
As India prepares for the grand finale against the undefeated South African team led by Aiden Markram, they aim to replicate their performances. Both teams are determined to secure the coveted title, making it a highly anticipated match.
