Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev praised Team India and skipper Rohit Sharma for reaching the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.
India, on Thursday (June 27), thrashed defending champions England by 68 runs to book their place in the final of the T20 World Cup for the third time and first time since 2014. Despite losing the toss, India thoroughly outplayed England in all the departments.India faced early setbacks when Virat Kohli (9) and Rishabh Pant (4) fell quickly after being asked to bat first. Yet, captain Rohit Sharma rescued his team from adversity with another fifty, his second in a row during the tournament. Rohit’s composed innings of 57 runs included a crucial partnership of 73 runs with Suryakumar Yadav (47) for the third wicket, stabilizing India’s innings.
India concluded their innings with a total of 171 for 7. In response, England struggled and were dismissed for just 103 runs. Throughout their chase, led by Jos Buttler, England never posed a serious threat to India’s imposing target on a challenging pitch. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav starred with three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah contributed with two crucial dismissals.
As India continued their dominant run in the tournament, Kapil Dev hailed their advancement to the final as “remarkable,” attributing the team’s success to the collective effort of all players. The former India captain also commended Rohit Sharma’s leadership, highlighting India’s commendable performance under his guidance.
“It’s wonderful. If anybody reaches in finals you just say how wonderfully they played. Not one name but the entire team. I always believe in a team. They have done wonderfully well, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the team has done extremely well,” Kapil Dev told ANI.
A historic second awaits Team India:
Team India is set to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. This marks India’s third appearance in the final of the tournament, contrasting with South Africa’s inaugural qualification.
India has the chance to make history in the final by becoming the first Asian team and the third overall, alongside West Indies and England, to secure the T20 World Cup title twice. Since their victory under MS Dhoni’s leadership in 2007, India has not clinched the T20 World Cup trophy or any ICC title since 2013, adding extra motivation for them to triumph in the upcoming match.
