Chris Gayle, the former West Indies opener, has made his selection for the superior cricketer among Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma just before the final match of the current T20 World Cup in 2024. Expressing his preference, Gayle opted for his former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Virat Kohli over Rohit Sharma as the more accomplished batsman.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stand out as the premier batsmen of the Indian cricket team in contemporary times. These seasoned players have been pivotal in India’s success across various formats in recent years, consistently achieving significant personal milestones in their illustrious international careers.
Their next opportunity to showcase their prowess will come during the T20 World Cup 2024 final clash against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. The batting displays of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be pivotal for India as they aim to break their decade-long drought in ICC tournaments.
Love Both Of Them To Be Honest – Chris Gayle
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, veteran cricket journalist Vimal Kumar asked Chris Gayle to choose between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Gayle expressed his admiration for both but leaned towards Virat Kohli, citing their past camaraderie as teammates.
“There are always fans in India who fight over Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, even though both are Indians and have brought glory to them. If you were to pick one player, either Rohit or Virat?” the reporter asked.
“I love both of them, to be honest. It’s 50-50, but let’s go with Virat,” Gayle said.
“Because he’s your former teammate as well, a soft corner,” the reporter further added.
“Yeah,” Gayle stated.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Batting Performances In T20 World Cup 2024
Virat Kohli came into the 2024 T20 World Cup in exceptional form after clinching the Orange Cap in IPL 2024. His IPL performance saw him amass 741 runs at an impressive average of 61.75 and a striking strike rate of 154.69, highlighted by a century and five half-centuries. However, in the T20 World Cup itself, Kohli has faced challenges, struggling to replicate his IPL success.
In the initial stages of the tournament, the 35-year-old endured a rough patch, managing scores of 1, 4, and 0 in the first three matches. He began to regain his touch with 24 runs off 24 balls against Afghanistan during the Super 8 stage, followed by a more substantial contribution of 37 runs off 28 balls versus Bangladesh. Yet, his performances remained inconsistent as he scored 0 and 9 runs in the last two matches, including the semifinal.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has emerged as the leading run-scorer for the Indian team in the 2024 T20 World Cup. At 37 years old, Sharma has accumulated 248 runs in seven innings, boasting an average of 41.33 and an impressive strike rate of 155.97, which includes three half-centuries. His pivotal knock of 57 off 39 balls in the semifinal against England played a crucial role in steering India into the tournament’s final match.
