The LPL 2024 begins with defending champions B-Love Kandy facing off against the Dambulla Sixers on July 1st, Monday, at Pallekele. The match kicks off at 7:30 pm IST. This marks the fourth installment of the Lanka Premier League, which commenced in 2020.
Jaffna Stallions claimed the inaugural championship in 2020, followed by Jaffna Kings securing back-to-back titles in LPL 2021 and 2022. B-Love Kandy emerged victorious in the 2023 season, defeating Dambulla by five wickets while chasing a total of 148.
This edition of the LPL features five teams: B-Love Kandy, Dambulla Sixers, Joffa Kinmgs, Galle Marvels, and Colombo Trikers.
Dambulla Aura was acquired by Imperial Sports Group, rebranded as Dambulla Thunders. Subsequently, amidst owner Tamim Rahman’s arrest on match-fixing charges, Sequoia Consultants via DeSilva Holdings took over the franchise, renaming it Dambulla Sixers.
Galle Titans were renamed Galle Marvels after Cricket Marvels LLC, owned by Prem Thakkar, acquired the franchise. The league is scheduled from July 1st to 21st, adopting a double round-robin format among the five teams.
The LPL has faced challenges, including seasons being canceled or postponed. Recent controversies, such as match-fixing allegations against the Dambulla Sixers owner, have thrust the league into the spotlight once again.

In India, Star Sports Network has secured exclusive rights to broadcast the LPL 2024 live. The tournament will feature a total of 24 matches spanning 21 days, with evening matches commencing at 7:30 pm IST and afternoon matches starting at 3 pm IST.

Star Sports has secured the rights to broadcast IPL 2024 exclusively in India. The tournament will span three venues: Pallekele, Colombo, and Dambulla. Over the course of 21 days, 24 matches will be held, culminating in the final match scheduled for June 21st in Colombo.
