Rohit Sharma’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, penned a touching message as the Indian cricket star gracefully ended his T20I career. India made history by becoming the first undefeated team to clinch a T20 World Cup title.
Rohit bid adieu to T20Is after leading India to their 50th T20I victory as captain, triumphing over South Africa in an electrifying final in Barbados.
His performance in the T20 World Cup was stellar, finishing as India’s top run-scorer with 257 runs at an impressive average of 36.71 and a strike-rate of 156.70.
Rohit also showcased exceptional leadership throughout the campaign.
Following the final, Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is during a media interaction.
Ritika has shared a heartfelt note for the victorious captain of the World Cup-winning team.
“I know what this has meant to you. This format, this cup, these men, this journey and this entire process of getting what you’ve always dreamed of. I know how hard these last few months have been for you. I know the toll it’s taken on your heart, mind and body but watching you achieve your dream was incredibly emotional and inspiring,” she wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture of Rohit with the trophy.
“As your wife, I am immensely proud of what you’ve achieved and the impact you’ve had on this game and the people who love it; but as someone who loves your game I’m sad to see you leave any part of it behind. I know you’ve thought long and hard about what’s best for this team but that doesn’t make watching you leave that part of it behind any easier,” Ritika added.
Prior to Rohit Sharma’s announcement, Virat Kohli had disclosed that his last T20I match had taken place, emphasizing his desire for younger players to assume leadership roles. Additionally, on Sunday, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also retired from T20I cricket.
Rohit “That was my last game as well. Honestly, I have enjoyed it since the time I started playing this format. There is no better time to say goodbye to this format. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted to do, win the Cup and say goodbye.”
Since his T20I debut in September 2007, Rohit Sharma has played 159 matches, accumulating 4231 runs, which include five centuries and 32 half-centuries. He was a member of the Indian team captained by MS Dhoni that defeated Pakistan to secure the inaugural T20 World Cup championship.
