Following India’s triumph in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Vikram Rathour, the batting coach of Team India, has penned a heartfelt tribute to captain Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma steered India to victory in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, ending the country’s prolonged quest for an ICC trophy. India had not clinched the T20 World Cup since 2007, and their last ICC title victory dated back to 2013.
Throughout the tournament, the seasoned batsman led the team by example, guiding them to an undefeated campaign. India secured victories in three out of their four group matches, with one game being abandoned due to a wet outfield. In the Super 8s stage, they triumphed over Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia. Notably, Rohit Sharma played a remarkable innings of 92 runs against Australia.
In the semifinal clash against defending champions England, Rohit Sharma showcased his prowess with a brilliant fifty on a challenging pitch, propelling India to a commanding 68-run victory and securing their first T20 World Cup final berth since 2014. In an electrifying final showdown against South Africa, the Men in Blue emerged victorious by 7 runs to claim the coveted trophy.

Rohit Sharma has made the decision to retire from T20 International cricket. The announcement came during the post-match press conference following the final. Rohit concludes his T20I career as the leading run-scorer in the format, amassing 4231 runs in 159 matches, including a record 5 centuries and 32 half-centuries.
Additionally, Rohit ranks second in overall runs scored in T20 World Cup history, trailing only Virat Kohli. Following India’s World Cup victory, both Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have also chosen to retire from T20Is, marking the end of their respective international T20 careers.
