Following Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement from T20I cricket, young Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is poised to assume a significant role in the team, having been part of India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
Despite not featuring in the tournament, Jaiswal’s temperament and skills are expected to cement his place in the T20I side. Following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa, Jaiswal was visibly ecstatic in the dressing room.
He celebrated the win by posing with the coveted trophy and sharing pictures on Instagram with a caption that expressed his indescribable emotions.
While Jaiswal’s post resonated with Indian cricket enthusiasts, it was a playful comment from Suryakumar Yadav that caught social media users’ attention. Responding to Jaiswal’s post, Suryakumar cheekily commented, “Mat kar SOJA, [Don’t do it, sleep].”
Suryakumar Yadav’s witty remark sparked a viral sensation online, with numerous social media users responding with laughing emojis. Many also praised Surya for his outstanding catch to dismiss David Miller in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Another Instagram user suggested, “Future T20 opener for the Indian cricket team.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal has already played 17 T20I matches, amassing 502 runs at an impressive strike rate of 161.93. He maintains an average of 33.46 in T20Is, achieving a highest score of 100. The 22-year-old has recorded one century and four half-centuries in this format.
Next up, Jaiswal is set to participate in the T20I series against Zimbabwe. India’s tour of Zimbabwe kicks off with a T20I match slated for July 6 at the Harare Sports Club.
