Former cricketer and commentator Dinesh Karthik has hailed Jasprit Bumrah as the “crown jewel” of Team India following his exceptional performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Karthik made this remark after Bumrah’s stellar form played a crucial role in India’s victorious campaign, where they dominated every match, culminating in a resounding win over South Africa in the final to claim their second World T20 title.
In the final against South Africa, Virat Kohli was the standout performer and received the Player of the Match award. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s consistent brilliance throughout the tournament earned him the Player of the Tournament accolade, highlighting his pivotal contributions.
Bumrah’s exceptional bowling displays saw him capture a total of 15 wickets across 8 matches at an impressive average of 8.27. His economical bowling, maintaining an economy rate of just 4.18, was instrumental in India’s unbeaten run in the tournament, making him the most effective bowler in the Indian squad.
Dinesh Karthik calls Jasprit Bumrah ‘Kohinoor Diamond of India’
During a conversation on Cricbuzz, former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik showered accolades on Jasprit Bumrah following another stellar performance in an ICC tournament. Karthik expressed that Bumrah’s value to India surpasses even that of the Kohinoor diamond.
“When I was on air, I said he is more valuable than a Kohinoor diamond. Genuinely, he is the greatest all-format bowler at the moment in world cricket. Under pressure to come and keep performing time and time again, not many can do that,” he said.
Having retired from all forms of cricket after IPL 2024, Karthik further emphasized that Bumrah’s ability to influence and potentially win matches at any moment distinguishes him as a truly exceptional player.
“He’s a captain’s dream—someone who wins at any stage, any play of the match—that’s what makes him so special. Brilliant, fantabulous—that’s the word for him,” the 38-year-old further added.
Indian commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu has likened Virat Kohli to the Kohinoor Diamond, describing him as the gemstone of India during a live commentary on Star Sports.
“Virat Kohli is the pride of India and world cricket. India had Kohinoor in the past, now India has Virat Kohli,” Sidhu had said.
