Rohit Sharma became emotional at the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning Indian men’s cricket team’s victory procession in Mumbai on Thursday.
Rohit Sharma and Team India arrived in Delhi after a lengthy 16-hour chartered flight, following their victory in the T20 World Cup, delayed by a category 4 hurricane in Barbados.
The team enjoyed breakfast at the Prime Minister’s residence before embarking on a parade through the streets of Mumbai. They rode atop a specially decked-out open bus from Gujarat, adorned with team colors, player photos, and the championship trophy, amid ecstatic crowds lining Marine Drive.
During the celebrations, Captain Rohit Sharma frequently raised his fists to the sky, embracing teammates and coach Rahul Dravid. Despite fatigue, players waved the Indian Tricolor, smiling and expressing joy at their World Cup triumph. Officials like Jay Shah, Rajeev Shukla, and Staurt Binny joined them on the bus.
At Wankhede Stadium, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honored the team. Rohit Sharma praised Surya and Hardik, while Virat Kohli, who retired from T20I cricket alongside Rohit, commended Jasprit Bumrah for his match-winning performances.
Bumrah, recalling having his young son with him at Kensington Oval, laughed off rumors of a billion fans petitioning him not to retire. Amidst many unforgettable moments, one of the most cherished was Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli walking hand-in-hand to thank the crowd, symbolizing their farewell from the T20 format.
