During the meeting, PM Modi inquired about Rohit Sharma’s experience of tasting the pitch, referring to a moment where the captain was seen sampling the ground where India clinched victory over South Africa in the final last week.
Virat Kohli, despite a challenging tournament, played a pivotal role in the final with a match-winning fifty. PM Modi queried Kohli about his mindset leading up to the crucial title clash.
Discussing the thrilling final, PM Modi engaged Jasprit Bumrah on his strategy during the decisive overs, and with Hardik Pandya, he discussed the plans executed in the final over where Pandya defended 16 runs.
The PM also spoke with Suryakumar Yadav, who took a spectacular catch of David Miller, and Axar Patel, who contributed significantly after being promoted in the batting order, about their experiences during the final match.
Earlier that morning, the Indian team had arrived in Delhi after a lengthy 16-hour flight from Barbados, where they faced delays due to the closure of the airport caused by Hurricane Beryl.
After arriving, they settled into a luxurious five-star hotel in New Delhi before meeting with the Prime Minister. Following this, they proceeded to the airport for their journey to Mumbai, where they participated in a grand procession along Marine Drive, greeted by hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic fans celebrating their World Cup victory.
The day concluded with a celebratory ceremony at Wankhede Stadium, where fans were invited to join in honoring the team’s achievement.
