India’s pace bowling leader, Jasprit Bumrah, clarified his stance on retiring from T20Is after India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the West Indies and the United States. Bumrah addressed any rumors about his retirement during the felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday evening.
Playing a pivotal role in India’s flawless campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024, led by Rohit Sharma, Bumrah contributed significantly to securing the trophy by defeating South Africa in the final match in Barbados. This marked India’s second T20 World Cup title in nine editions.
Following India’s triumphant World Cup campaign, three stalwarts bid farewell to T20I cricket. Captain Rohit Sharma, star batsman Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is. Rohit boasts two T20 World Cup victories, while Virat and Jadeja each have one in their illustrious careers.
Hopefully, It Is Far Away Now – Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah clarified his stance on retiring from T20Is following India’s World Cup victory. The talented fast bowler affirmed that retirement is not on his radar anytime soon, emphasizing that stepping away from the T20I format is “far off” for him.
“It’s (my retirement) is a long way away. I have just started. Hopefully, it is far away now,” Bumrah said during the felicitation at Wankhede Stadium to celebrate Team India’s World Cup triumph.
Jasprit Bumrah has solidified his place as one of India’s finest fast bowlers in history. His pivotal spell in the final match turned the tide in India’s favor against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. In that match, South Africa failed to achieve 30 runs from the last 30 deliveries.
Bumrah’s performance was instrumental in India’s victory, claiming two wickets for 18 runs in his four overs. Throughout the tournament, the 30-year-old delivered standout performances, including figures of 3/14 against Pakistan, 3/7 versus Afghanistan in the Super 8s, and 2/12 in the semi-final against England.

Following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, tears of joy adorned the faces of every player. For Bumrah, the presence of his son, Angad, added an extra layer of emotion to the moment. Bumrah described the experience as surreal, mentioning that seeing his son brought overwhelming emotions, leading him to shed tears multiple times.
“It was unreal. Usually, I am not the one who is at a loss of words, but seeing my son, the emotions that came in. I never cry after the game, but I started crying, and I cried two, three times,” Bumrah added.
Bumrah was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his exceptional bowling performance throughout the event. He ended as the tournament’s third-highest wicket-taker, claiming 15 dismissals in eight matches at an impressive average of 8.27. His economy rate stood at just 4.17 runs per over in the prestigious ICC tournament.
